Turkey lurkey

I've only made the turkey for Thanksgiving once (and my awesome SIL helped out, so maybe that's why it was so good), but it was the most amazing turkey ever. It was so moist and just plain d-lish. Oh, and we stuffed cubes of butter under the skin for extra goodness. Doesn't that picture look like it should be in a magazine? Anyway, here's the recipe for the basting broth.

Herb Roasted Turkey:

Stir in med. bowl:
1 3/4 c. chicken broth
3 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. dried basil leaves-crushed
1 tsp. dried thyme leaves-crushed
1/8 tsp. pepper

Roast turkey according to directions, basting occasionally w/ broth. Let stand for 10 min. before slicing. Discard remaining broth.

Give Your Stuffing Some Spunk!

This isn't really a recipe, but more of a tip I guess. I always add Craisins to my stuffing. Ya know; those little dried cranberries. It's an awesome way to add some pizazz! They also come in a variety of flavors.

For the love of cauliflower!

Cauliflower is another member of the cruciferous family of vegetables along with broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and collard greens. Although cauliflower lacks the bright green of its other cruciferous cousins, it is far from lacking in nutritional value. Cauliflower is rich in vitamin C. In fact, one cup of raw cauliflower contains 92% of the daily value for vitamin C, almost as much vitamin C as a medium orange. It also contains health-promoting sulfur compounds.

Pizza Cutter

Ok I know that it's not an official baby product, but I use my pizza cutter everyday. I cut all my kids foods with it into the perfect bite size pieces in a jiff. Don't ever let you're little ones play with it though. Not that any of you would, but there are still a few ding dongs in the world that would, so just in case one of the ding dongs is reading this:)

Next to BABYWISE...

one of my favorite baby items was a nursing cover that my friend Charlie makes. It is called The Mommy Cover. I would just carry it in my diaper bag and then I didn't need to worry about nursing and trying to juggle a blanket and squirmy baby. Now, I know there are a lot of nursing covers out there, but this is the best I've seen. It has a reel that attaches across your back and it keeps it from slipping and sliding around. It was awesome. My sister and sister-in-law both bought one as well. My other sister, who just had a baby this week, is borrowing mine, since I don't need it anymore. Very awesome--I highly recommend.

Baby Wise

Dana used Baby Wise when she had Jonas. I couldn't believe he was such a good sleeper. I thought she was just lucky. But she told me that it was because of Baby Wise. I decided to try it with my second baby since my first was an awful sleeper. I'm a believer! I'm proud to say that I have a baby wise baby!

Blog in lieu of our website

So, I set up a blog (because I know how to do it pretty well) while our website is under construction. Check it out and pass it along to all who might be interested. It has a bunch of our product and I will just keep adding stuff until our site gets up and going.

October...

My old college roommate just adopted a baby, so I thought for this month, we could share the BEST BABY ITEM you've used/received/etc. Please share as many as you like.

Also, in addition to posting about the theme, I would love to see posts about everyday stuff as well. Like when Albertson's is doing 10 for $10 cereal or something like that. Or if you find a great deal on the internet. DO share with the rest of us. I am always looking for coupons or deals like that. Thanks,

Dana

Love my Earrings!

This is my fav right now. I love these earrings. I'm into the long, dangily (however that's spelled) earrings. They make me feel so pretty and feminine. I wear these every chance I get.

Next to my wedding ring...

I like my new earrings from Kohls. I used a $10 gift card, so they were basically free. Got to love those certificates that come in the mail ;0)
I haven't been one to wear a lot of jewelry. I think I suffered an overdose from Jr. High when I would wear a ring on every finger but my pointer finger and I had necklaces, anklets, toe rings, etc... So in college, I decided to go on a jewelry diet. I even sold most of it last year at a garage sale and made bank $$$. Until recently I only wore my wedding ring and CTR ring (and on special occasions, a pair of rhinestone earrings--very simple). I do seem to feel cuter with a little bit on. Just a simple pair of earrings or a necklace does the trick. I am not into the gobs and gobs of jewelry. Plus, my ears are really sensitive, so I can only wear them for so long before they are bleeding!!!

"Jewelry...you complete me."

AHHHHH .....jewelry. It really finishes an ensemble, like the frame to a picture, the mascara to your eye make-up, the vanilla in your cookies...have you ever left that out, not so good. Anyway, take any outfit and finish it off with jewelry and you look complete. Youv'e added that eye-catching sparkle, that something memorable. But, the best part is how it makes you feel. Is this corny or what? But it's true, you can't deny that you do feel a little prettier with jewelry on. That's why we love it!

So here's a question for you... How do you keep yours? In a box, a drawer, a bag, hanging on nails in your closet, on your bathroom counter? I'm looking for clever ideas on how to organize my jewelry. I want to keep it easily accesable, safe from my 6 and 8 year old daughters, and organized so I can find what I'm looking for fast. Please Share what works and what dosen't. :0)

My Favorite Jewelry

Okay. So, I know that diamonds don't really fall into the jewelry category. They fall more into a gemstone category but, I love jewelry with diamonds in it and I can blame my wonderful hubby for that one because he worked at a jewelry store for 10 years:} Besides, diamonds are a girl's best friend right?

SEPTEMBER!!!

My SIL was in town for Labor Day weekend and brought the jewelry that she sells. We had a great time wearing it all. So, the theme for this month is JEWELRY.
What is your favorite piece to wear??? Snap a photo of you in it, if you want.

Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a Ziplock bag. Seal, mash until they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing up thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done. Easy clean up.

Reheat Pizza

Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove. Set heat to medium low and heat until warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No more soggy micro pizza!!

Scrambled Eggs or Omelets

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream. Then beat them together.

Peppers

Peppers with three bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.

Peppers with four bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Cheese

Store your opened cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and won't mold.

Bananas

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to peel off those little stringy things. That's how the primates do it!

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. (If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen and spoil too fast).

Two of my best kitchen secrets...

#1--You know how anything with a tomato based sauce leaves that ever-lasting orange/red stain on your tupperware?

Want to know how to get it out???

Well, simply put the tainted tupperware/plastic in direct sunlight for a day, and VOILA!!! Orange/red tint is gone. Bleached by the sun. Amazingly simple, I know, but it works, I promise. Extra bonus: it's free. You only need a sunny day.

#2--Tearing up everytime you cut those onions?

Want to know how to keep it from getting to you???
Put a piece of bread in your mouth as you cut and somehow it absorbs the fumes. I just take a bite and leave the rest hanging out. Amazing again, right? Try it out and let me know how it worked.

{I got these wonderfully useful tips from my SIL. She's great in the kitchen :0) }

Please share a secret or two, if you want, in the comment section.
